History
Family Physicians of Tidewater has a long history of serving the residents of Norfolk, VA. The practice originated in the Ocean View, Norfolk area, moving to the DePaul campus in the 1980s. In 1989, Dr. Stokes Kirkland took over the practice as the lead physician. He helped guide the practice through many big milestones including adoption of an electronic medical records system, relocation of the practice, and navigating the complexities of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since 2010, the practice has resided in the charming Ghent section of Norfolk. Following the retirement of Dr. Stokes Kirkland, ownership of the practice was passed on to his son, Dr. David Kirkland, who has made strides to modernize the practice while still maintaining the close-knit family-oriented values that make our small private practice unique.
